What is so bothersome than a stopped drain!.

This has happened to all of us – the water fast submerging our feet while are taking a shower. Is there anything as inconvenient and messy as a blocked drainpipe!. Or you’re in front of the toilet sink, brushing your teeth and before you know it – the sink is halfway full. Dealing with stopped drainage is all together an unpleasant experience because it is complicated and unsanitary. However it is something that every household has to deal with, sooner or later. Every householder must know how to fight that monster of a clogged up drain pipe.

Why Do They Happen?.

They get clogged up when dust, hair and other particles get entrapped between the pipes inside the bathroom drainpipe. The condition gets worse when products like conditioners, shampoos and detergents accumulate in the already plugged drains. Eventually the clumps of accumulated matter prevent water from emptying out quickly or may even completely seal the drainpipe hole. So, if you are finding the water isn’t flowing freely through your drain pipe resulting in water rising quickly in your bath or sink chances are that you have a clog in your plumbing system.

How to remove the drain blockage.

If you want your water to start flowing freely then there are a few things you can do to rectify the problem. The first step is to remove the plug whether the blocked drain is in a sink or bath. In the case of the bathroom sink, you can remove the stopper by either pulling it out, unscrewing the nuts that hold it in proper position. In case of bath drain, you can either remove the overflow plate or unscrew the stopper.

It is important to remove the stopper because only then you can view the things that are clogging the drain inside the drain pipe. It is very likely to look like a small mass of hair and debris wrapped around the drainpipe’s hardware. Put on a pair of gloves and extract whatever blockages comes within reach. Use a wire from a clothes hangar or some other apparatus if you have difficulties reaching the blockage or grabbing the build up so that you can pull it out. Your drain is likely to get unclogged if you remove the soap scum, hair and other particles from it that you can see.

In a case of deeper clogging, your hand or hooked wire may not do the trick – you may have to try the next step. Use a drainpipe plunger to loosen the blockage that is deeper down the pipework. To use the plunger the overflow drainpipe pipe should be covered first with the help of a wet cloth, this will make the suction stronger and make it harder for air to enter the pipes. Then put the plunger over the drain mouth and press it up and down repeatedly. When you let go of the plunger, any excess water should flow out right away if you have dislodged the blockage.

If the plunger method fails to properly unblock your drainpipe, you may have to resort to using chemical drainpipe cleaner. This method should only be used as a last resort because the chemicals used are dangerous and can be harmful to your bathroom fixtures.

Call in the drains Professionals.

If you are unable to unblock the drainage even after trying all the methods, it is only advisable to call a professional plumber who has experience of drains work. Plumbers have special equipment to clean the obstructed drainage speedily and effortlessly such as a drains snake, drainage contractors also employ water jetting to clear blockages and cctv drainage cameras to view inside the drain pipe. Though it won’t come cheaply, an experienced plumber’s help can provide peace of mind.
