Sewerage back flow is bad for your health as it is unsanitary.
If you are experiencing drainage backing up into your bathroom toilets, bath tubs, and showers, it is time to call your plumber. This sewage will contain germs so it should be cleaned at once and your plumbing system should be repaired so as to prevent it from happening again.
As an immediate measure whilst waiting for help, use one cup bleaching agent in every five gallons of water to clean up the area while you await the plumber. Wear eye protection, long trousers, gloves and boots and seal the area to prevent entry by kids, the elderly and pets. Remember to thoroughly wash your hands with soap after you are done with the cleaning up. Now the question is that how can you prevent sewerage overflow during the problem? Well you can do so by not allowing too much water to go into the drains.
The cause of the problem might be a stopped waste line or a stoppage between the toilet and the shower. Either way, your top priority should be to prevent your family from exposure to disease causing bacteria.
Symptoms from being exposed to sewage may include diarrhea, stomach pain, fever, chills, and vomiting. Seek medical attention right away if you experience any of these symptoms.
All objects polluted by the sewage, including kids’s play items, should be disinfected by mixing one cup of odorless household bleach for every five Imperial gallons of water. You will have to throw away any items that can’t be cleaned properly such as mattresses and of course any food that may have been contaminated.
You can try clearing the backup in a shower area by manipulating a plumbers snake tool into the drain. For the best results you should use a one quarter inch snake that is 8 yards in length. The snake can be maneuvered conveniently down the plumbing pipes. Sometimes a toilet in the bathroom is quite clear while the shower in the same area has gotten clogged. This can occur because the toilet trap sits more or less six inches above the flooring, while a shower drain is normally placed at the floor level.
Call a professional plumber or drainage contractor if you are unable to clear the back up yourself. Plumbers will be able to find the choke and clear the back flow thoroughly as they have specialist tools and experience in this problem. It is smart to get a plumber in if you don’t have knowledge when is comes to sewage backups and other plumbing troubles.
