Move to the front of the line and clear those clogged sewers

Everyone experiences clogged drains at some time and when they occur it is not fun. There are a number of problems associated with blocked drains and one of them is flooding of your bathtub, sink, shower and toilet. By the time all that water has piled up, it’s too late to use drain clearing products or quick fixes, as the blockage lies deep in the pipework. Once you call a professional plumber in, you’ll be looking at a hefty expense. A more obstinate blockage will cost more to clear. Only when multiple blockages occur in your house may you then you realise the mistake of not taking precautionary measures.

But do you know how drains get blocked?.

Carelessness is one main reason for clogged drains. If you don’t keep the drain strainer in place to trap food particles, you could easily end up with a clogged drain after a while. The drain can become clogged by the collection of this material inside it. To make matters worse, cooking grease and/or oil can build up in the pipes (or on a developing clog). Now coming to the toilet, the main problem is that many individuals try to flush large amounts of used toilet papers into the drain.

Tossing waste items not meant to be flushed down the toilet also worsens the situation. A blockage can be caused instantly or over a period of time by objects like sanitary products, baby-wipes and paper towels. Hair often gets entangled in the pipes and clog the bathtubs, showers and the sinks. The sticky residue of toothpaste, gels, soaps and shampoos continously builds up inside toilet drains.

Unfortunately, clogs can occur as a result of problems that have nothing to do with what you put into your drains. The other things which are known to incur drainage problems are tree roots, scale, rusted pipelines and damaged drain lines.

Solutions to your blocked drainage:.

You can use certain acids and chemicals which are especially meant for clearing the clogged drains. However you should note that using such chemicals can be harmful for health and environment and can also damage the pipes and fixtures. Luckily, there are also natural methods of clearing drain blockages. For example, flushing your pipes with boiling water periodically can keep them clear. Using baking soda and vinegar is another method. Simply pour vinegar into the clogged drain, and then sprinkle it liberally with baking soda. Allow the mixture to settle in the drains for minimum of 15 minutes, pouring boiling water and rinsing it afterward is likely to remove the blockages.

Inspection and prevention are better and cheaper than the plumber’s cure.

Your pipework is a working system that needs maintenance, just like your car or machinery. Similar to all your possessions, it also needs constant examination and ongoing maintenance. You can be vigilant about what’s going on with your drains and pipes and perform part of the inspection yourself, as you are most familiar with how the drains behave. Get the drains regularly checked by a professional plumber or drains contractor to avoid worries and expenditure on severe drain blockages. As a preventative measure, you should also have a plumbing technician snake all of your drain lines once a year or so. However you can get them snaked more frequently too in case your drains are prone to getting clogged. CCTV surveillance should be employed every now and again for important pipe connections.

Prevention of these potential problems can be done by regular inspection of the drains.
