It is remarkably painful to deal with clogged sewers.

It is remarkably painful to deal with clogged sewers.

This has happened to all of us – the water fast submerging our feet while are taking a shower. Is there anything as inconvenient and messy as a choked drain!. Or while brushing your teeth by the sink, all of a sudden the sink starts to fill up. Clearing stopped drainage is something everyone wants to avoid because it’s such a messy task and the defective drains make one appear unhygienic (and that’s what those drains are). But it is something that most people will have to deal with every once in a while. So you should know how to unclog them, well in advance.

First, let’s look at why drains become blocked and what are the main causes of a blockage.

Clogging occurs when substances like hair, dust and other bits and pieces get trapped in the region where the bathroom drain is connected to the main drain pipe. Residue from daily use of shampoo, conditioner, soap, cleaners and other products tends to further aggravate the sticky build up. When the offending mass becomes too dense to allow any water to flow through freely, the problem is identified as a plugged drainpipe. So, if you are finding the water isn’t flowing freely through your drain resulting in water rising quickly in your bath or sink chances are that you have a clog in your plumbing system.

Clear Up Your drainage fast.

You can do a number of things to unblock your bathtub or bathroom sink drain. The first thing you will have to do is take out the plug of the blocked sink or drain pipe. In the case of the bathroom sink, you can remove the plug by either pulling it out, unscrewing the nuts that hold it in proper position. For a bath you may be able to simply take out the plug, otherwise you might have to take off the overflow plate in order to get at the assembly.

It is important to remove the stopper because only then you can view the things that are clogging the drain pipe inside the drainage pipe. It is very likely to look like a small mass of hair and debris wrapped around the drain pipe’s hardware. Try to pull it out, as much as you can. If it is out of reach, you can use a wire clothes hanger to remove it if you can hook into the debris and pull it. This step of removing the residual clumps will remove the local blockage at your drain pipe point.

However other methods can be used in case the blockage is unreachable even with a hanger. blockages which are very deep can be removed with the help of a drainpipe plunger. Ensure that you have placed a wet rag on the overflow drain – this will produce better suction pressure from the plunger. Then, put the plunger over the drainpipe and push up and down half a dozen times. If you are successful, any water, if trapped, will be immediately drained when the plunger is released.

You can unclog the drainage through chemical drainpipe cleaner too if a drains plunger does not work for you. The chemicals have the potential to damage your bathroom fixtures, and they are dangerous too; for this reason, they should be used only when all the above methods fail to unclog your drain.

Get expert help if this is necessary, call in a drainage contractor.

If the above methods fail to solve your clogged drain problem then you may have to contact a plumber. Plumbers are equipped with tools that can remove clogs with great speed and efficiency. It may cost you, but you will find it is worth the money once you can use your sink and shower worry free.
