Did my recruiter tell me to lie?

OK got some new info.I had a staph infection in my knee and had some fluid in it,According to my mom they just poked some holes while under general anesthesia and drained it.

When I brought this issue up with my recruiter he said not to worry since it was over 12 years ago and you can’t really see the scars.

Problem is the afsc i want will probably require a Top Secret Clearance, and those go real far.So will I be screwed?
well the infection created fluid in my knee.

They don’t care about a staph infection.

The medical questionare form you fill out asks Do you have or have you ever had…

If there is a box asking for that relevent information, you need to fill it out.

It’s best to be completely honest about anything and everything, better safe then sorry.

It’s up to you, it’s your future.

yes your recruiter lied.. no that probably won’t be an issue.

He didn’t tell you to lie. He told you that whatever your problem was is not a concern for the question you had to answer. TS will go back 10 years, but will not see or know anything about your knee. They are concerned about finances, drugs, foreign connections, etc.

No way you’ll be screwed on a TS or TS3 clearence for that. I’m a Intel Specialist (IS) in the navy…so I know security clearences…they are looking for felonies and financial debt…nothing with health…just be sure you haven’t been in the peace corp before enlisting…you’ll be disqualified.

He was probably telling you it was insignificant. Knock yourself out. If it makes a difference to you, tell them.

no, he said it probably wont be a problem.

but, the military doesnt care about a staph infection.

I would not worry about it…..I would forget all about the infection….. if the subject is ever brought up just say…. OH YEAH, I forgot about that…..
I doubt there will be any questions asked in your background investigation related to this……they are looking for criminal behavior….. they will talk to friends,…. neighbors, teachers and employers……they are looking for things you kept hidden….. a staph infection and its treatment is not really that important

My advise ……ALWAYS tell the truth….. the military will forgive a lot but they get real upset about lies

you are just a number to them, they will lie cheat deceive misinform mislead and do whatever they have to to get you in. you want to die for oil? go to college instead

yes your recruiter told you to let, and I’m sure he told you to lie more then once. However, I positive it won’t come on a backgroud check.
