What can you do if you are stuck with a plugged drain pipe? Well the easiest way to unblock your bathroom drain is to use a drains pipes plunger. The entire process of opening clogged up drain pipe with a plunger is simple and straightforward. But the last thing you want to do is be too aggressive and pulse to quickly. The most effective procedure to adopt is to cover the drain pipe completely with the bell-shaped head of the plunger and push down gently, then come up quickly and forcefully creating suction. Hopefully the suction of the upwards movement of the drains plunger will pull what ever is stuck in your drain pipe back up into the bathroom toilet, tub or sink. Some washbasins and bathtubs are provided with overflow openings that have to be blocked temporarily with a wet cloth for the plunger to develop effective suction.
An alternative for plunger is a chemical drains pipes clearance product, one that uses corrosive chemical to unclog the blockage of the drainpipe. These products should be used only when the plunger has failed to clean out your bathroom drain. Run the chemical into the drain pipe and allow it to work for about 30 minutes before flushing the drain pipe with hot water. As a precaution you should wear clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty or corrosive chemicals on. Eye protection is not a bad idea either if you plan on plunging again in case there is any residual back splash of chemical laden water. Just be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions to avoid any unnecessary problems.
If the plunger still doesn’t make any difference after the chemical treatment you could use pliers or a pipe wrench to loosen the P-trap nuts. Removing the drain trap can release a sudden rush of waste water, so keep a mop and pail handy, put a bucket underneath the p-trap before you disconnect it. Chrome plated fittings can be protected from scratches by taping up the teeth of the pliers or wrench; that should also give you a firmer grip on the nuts of the trap. You will be able to check the drainage P-trap for any blockages in the pipe opening after you remove it. If the plunger, the chemical or trap removal does not help, then the blockage could be much deeper in the pipework.
In case of a blocked toilet, you can apply a toilet auger. If on the other hand you are attempting to unclog your tub or sink you may need to use a drainpipe snake. drain snakes are manufactured to be able to access the far side of your pipes as narrow as they may be. A plumbers drainage snake has an adjustable handle which is used to make a drill into the clog, it then becomes easy to remove the obstruction by pulling it upwards. Once, you have taken out the obstruction, re-fix the P-trap and rinse the drain with hot water to make sure that the entire clog has been removed. Everything should be sealed properly after the whole process is over, the P-trap and pipes should also be checked for any leaks.
If all the above enlisted methods fail to unclog your bathroom drain, then you should call a professional drainage contractor. You will need to call a professional plumber or drains pipes service when the clog is in the sewer or soil track or when it is due to tree roots, or when the pipe has collapsed due to some reason.
